There is a memorial to firefighters who died on duty in Riverside Park that is home to one of the most moving September 11th remembrances. All of the names of the FDNY that were killed in the attack on the World Trade Center are read. It is a much more somber occasion without the media presence and politicians that clog the one downtown.

The monument was designed by H. Van Buren Magonigle (1867-1935), and its sculptures are attributed to Attilio Piccirilli (1866-1945).
