I was awestruck by this mural I saw when I exited the Stillwell Station in Coney Island today. It is a beautiful piece of work. The Artsist is OS GEMEOS, The Twins.

That must have been something to see. I am amazed at the expressions on the character’s faces, you can really feel what they are thining.

Randomly, I was fortunate enough to have witnessed this mural be created. I don’t go to Coney Island to often, only once a year or so, but I happened to be there on one of the days there were painting. I am sure it took many days since it is so, so large and diverse. I watched for about 45-60 minutes with my sister who is a muralist herself. The entire thing was done with regular spray paint. They had a collection of nozzles that they would place on top of the can to gain better control. It was an inspiring moment. The majority of the concept had been mapped out and we watched them transform a small section gradually, piece by piece. It was really a very simple process, just the two of them, cans of paint and some ladders.

The artists of the mural go by the collective name of OS GEMEOS (The Twins), a reknown duo of brothers that have taken the art world by storm. They had a retrospective of their work at The Tate Gallery in London 2 years ago. Last year I was lucky to catch an exhibit of their work in Sao Paulo, Brazil while working there. There is another mural by them in New York at this moment. Check out: http://hypebeast.com/2009/07/os-gemeos-mural-nyc-completed/

    Best, wg

Thanks for the information William, I see their work pop up around the city and I love it. I’ll make sure to pass on the credit.
