Ny- New York’s Very Own National Treasure

Anyone who has watched the National Treasure movies or read any of Dan Brown’s books knows who the Masons are. They were a group of very intelligent designers and builders who built many of our country’s earlier landmarks. They built The Level Club on West 73rd, between Broadway and West End Avenue to be their National Headquarters. After a brief inhabitance the club defaulted on its mortgage in the crash of 1929, was used as a hospital during World War II, converted to a hotel in 1936, then in the 1980’s was converted to apartments.

Knowing what we know about the Masons and the Knights Templar, you have to imagine there are some pretty neat secrets hidden in this building.

    Thanks Milo,

I am not sure what info is out there on the web about this building. I was walking with my wife and kids one day and noticed the building for the first time, we usually cut up 74th. There was a women outside her townhouse that saw us staring and she filled us in on all of the history. I found some stuff on line, I am sure there is more out there somewhere.

Pretty interesting, is there any online library about this building?
I’ve found only architecture readings, but nothing about the history or background of this building.
