I was walking down Columbus avenue the other day when I saw this group of people wheeling a giant metallic shark fin down the middle of 72nd Street. Never without my camera I grabbed it out of my backpack and powered up for a once in a lifetime shot only to find that I left my memory flash card sitting in my computer at home. Ugh!
But never fear, I found the sculpture surfacing at the end of the West 70th street pier like a giant shark circling the island. The artist is James Johnson, a local artisan who handcrafts his works at his studio DaughterPride in Long Island City. There is no sign saying when the statue is going to be moved again so hurry down to the Riverside Park South and get a look. The kids in the neighborhood all love it, I do too.
