Austin Texas- Bat watching at the Congress Avenue Bridge

Here is something you don’t see in new York City. Every night at sunset, from March to October, 1,500,000 bats take flight from under the Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin Texas. The bats spend their summers in the 16 inch transoms that were carved in to the bridge after reconstruction where they give birth and nurture their babies before the long journey back to Mexico for the winter. It is really cool to watch.

I met Keith McCoy and his wife under the bridge and I wanted to give him a plug. Keith has been playing base for Willie Nelson and has a big recording studio and his own band in Houston. If you need any studio work and are in Texas you can find him here.
