Duane Park was the first open space acquired by the city of New York for its residents to use as a public park. Originally part of the Annetje Jans Farm, it was sold in 1670 to the English Governor Sir Francis Lovelace but was confiscated by the Duke of York in 1705 who deeded it to Trinity Church who sold it to the city for $5 in 1797.
The small triangle enclosed by Duane, Staple, and Hudson Streets is bordered by many small shops, galleries, restaurants, and homes housed in the neighborhoods historical converted warehouses.
