I dropped my wife off in midtown and was looking for a place to drink a cup of coffee when I stumbled on the courtyard at the New York Palace, right across the streeet from the back of Saint Patricks Cathedral on Madison Avenue. There were no benches, probably to keep people like me from sitting there, but I found a planter and made myself comfortable. The palace was originally the Archbishop’s house before becoming Le Cirque, before they moved to the Bloomberg Building.
